TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi was cleared of wrongdoing regarding a $25,000 campaign contribution she received from President Donald Trump in 2013, the office of State Attorney Stephen Russell said Thursday.

Bondi asked for the donation around the same time her office was being asked about a New York investigation of alleged fraud at Trump University. Bondi’s office took no action against the since-shuttered university.

Gov. Rick Scott assigned Russell’s office to investigate the donation in December. Chief Assistant State Attorney Amira D. Fox found insufficient evidence to pursue a criminal charge, Russell said in a letter to Scott.

See the letter below:

A Massachusetts attorney filed numerous complaints against Bondi, including one that asked State Attorney Mark Ober to investigate Trump’s donation.

Ober asked Scott in September to appoint a different prosecutor because Bondi used to work for him.
