Man accused of trying to lure Cape Coral teen into vehicle

CAPE CORAL, Fla. A man is accused of attempting to lure a teenage girl into his vehicle Wednesday, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

An older man in a beige minivan was following the girl while she was walking near the Kia dealership in the 300 block of Northeast Pine Island Road on the way to her boyfriend’s house, police said. The minivan passed her, made a U-turn and passed her again.

The man stopped next to her and offered to give her a ride as she walked by the Circle K at 1523 N.E. Pine Island Rd., according to police. She declined, but the man persisted until a witness stopped and asked her if she was OK.

The man then left the area. The minivan’s license plate read MBK553, the witness said. It’s registered to a 57-year-old man living in North Fort Myers, police said.

A similar incident occurred last week, when a suspect tried to lure a 13-year-old girl into his car near the intersection of N.E. Sixth Avenue and N.E. 27th Terrace. It’s unclear whether the two events are linked.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cape Coral Police Department at 239-574-3223.
