CAPE CORAL, Fla. Authorities are searching for a suspect accused of trying to lure a 13-year-old girl into his car Tuesday, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

A teenage witness who wished to remain anonymous was getting off the bus when he saw the suspect approach the girl in a brown SUV near the intersection of N.E. Sixth Avenue and N.E. 27th Terrace. The girl appeared scared and didn’t want to speak to the man, according to police.

“She was twisting her leg, holding her bag, holding it by the straps and moving, like twisting her body and she kept looking towards her street that she turns down,” he said. “She kept looking at the guy like she wanted to move but she couldn’t.”

When the teen took a picture of the suspect’s SUV, he sped off west on N.E. 27th Terrace, police said.

“I’ve been hearing stories lately about this stuff, so I wanted to make sure she was safe because that made me feel better,” the teen said. “I couldn’t live with it if something did happen to her.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at 239-574-3223.
