Crews battling brush fire on Babcock Ranch property

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. A 250-acre brush fire ignited off of State Road 31 on Babcock Ranch property at approximately 12 p.m. Friday, according to Charlotte County Fire & EMS Public Information Officer Dee Hawkins.

The brush fire is now 95 percent contained, according to fire officials.

Multiple agencies are on the scene and no structures are threatened at this time, Hawkins said.

It appears the blaze was caused by an unauthorized pile burn, fire officials said.
