CAPE CORAL, Fla. An Island Coast High School student told Lee County Sheriff’s deputies she was sexually assaulted on campus Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

A male student carried out the assault in a room without a teacher or any adult supervision, she told the sheriff’s office. No charges have been filed.

The female student said she didn’t know the male student’s name, according to the sheriff’s office.

Principal Kristin Bueno sent a message to parents alerting them that an alleged crime had taken place at the school but didn’t elaborate, multiple parents said. Some of the parents said they felt left in the dark.

“I think parents should be informed if there was some kind of an assault on the child,” parent Sandra Goldstein said. “We need to know these [things] as parents.”

The Lee County school district declined comment.
