NORTH NAPLES, Fla. Five people were rescued Monday from a sinking boat near Wiggins Pass, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said. All five made it off the boat safely and appear to be OK, according to the sheriff’s office. The 22-foot vessel was about a half-mile off shore when it began taking on water amid rough seas, the sheriff’s office marine patrol said. Deputies got three of the passengers into a sheriff’s office boat while a crew from the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District took the other two aboard theirs. The North Collier Fire and Rescue District, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard also assisted. It’s unclear what caused the ship to sink.
