Lee County traffic stop leads to $1M drug bust

FORT MYERS, Fla.  A 51-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after deputies found over $1 million worth of marijuana in his car, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 3 p.m., deputies pulled over Carlos Aguilar, of Miami, on I-75 near mile marker 143 for illegal window tint.

As deputies approached the 2004 Toyota, Aguilar sped off, pulled over, then fled on foot into the woods, deputies said.

Upon searching the Toyota, deputies recovered 11 trash bags full of freshly harvested marijuana, the sheriff’s office said.

Augilar was found after a search was conducted by the sheriff’s office and the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was placed under arrest for trafficking over 25 pounds of marijuana, eluding law enforcement and resisting arrest.
