Boil water notice issued for portion of Lee County

SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. A 12-inch water main break left approximately 500 customers without water Tuesday morning, Lee County Utilities said.

The water has been shut off while repairs are underway, according to officials. The issue was expected to be fixed by late afternoon.

Approximately 300 residential customers and 200 commercial customers are affected.

Customers in the following areas will be under a precautionary boil water notice once repairs are completed:

  • The east side of South Tamiami Trail from 14101 to 15091
  • Bell Tower Park Boulevard
  • West Hyde Park Boulevard
  • Bently Circle
  • Avon Park Circle
  • Cheshire Drive
  • Berkshire Drive
  • Chelsey Lane
  • Kensington Loop
  • Andrea Lane
  • Hemingway Drive
  • Bruner Lane
  • Gamma Drive

Residents on those streets should use bottled water or heat water at a rolling boil for one minute if drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes, officials said.

The notice will be in effect until the water is tested and determined safe. Results will take up to 72 hours, according to officials.

Residents are urged to call 239-533-8575 after 4:30 p.m. Thursday to verify the boil water notice has been lifted.
