ENGLEWOOD, Fla. Three Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies have been placed on administrative leave following their involvement in a deadly shooting Sunday night.

Jacob Taulbee, 41, of 6229 Marcum St. in Englewood, was shot and killed Sunday night by one of those deputies, the sheriff’s office said. He’s accused of threatening the deputies while holding two knives as he came out of a wooded area near his home.

The deputies, who were originally called there because of domestic disturbance, commanded Taulbee to stop, but he didn’t, according to the sheriff’s office. That’s when one of the deputies fired several rounds at him.

The deputies attempted to render medical aid, but Taulbee succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the deputies.

The state attorney’s office and the sheriff’s office are investigating the incident.

Taulbee has no prior criminal record in Southwest Florida, according to Prummell.

No further information was immediately available.
