MARCO ISLAND, Fla. Dead fish are once again washing up on the shores of Southwest Florida. Medium concentrations concentrations of red tide have been reported in Collier County, particularly Marco Island, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The toxic algae is responsible for the deaths of thousands of fish in the Gulf of Mexico. Red tide also has troublesome effects on people who have respiratory problems, as it can cause coughing, sneezing and itchiness.
