IMMOKALEE, Fla. Southbound State Road 29 is shut down after a semi-trailer truck crashed into a canal roughly 2 miles south of Farm Worker Way, the Immokalee Fire Control District said.

A half-acre brush fire broke out at the scene of the Tuesday afternoon wreck, according to district officials. A helicopter is landing on State Road 29 to fly at least one person injured in the crash to a hospital.

The truck spilled an unknown amount of diesel fuel, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection said.

The road is expected to be closed for an “extended time,” the district said. The crash happened at about 12:30 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

No further information is immediately available.
