FORT MYERS, Fla. Florida Power & Light plans to build eight new universal solar power plants within the next year, doubling their original number of new solar plants.

The plants will generate 600 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power 120,000 homes.

FPL says the plan will eventually save millions for consumers.

There are currently three solar plants across the state, including one at Babcock Ranch.
