Walk the Spectrum raises awareness, funds for autism

ESTERO, Fla. Hundreds of people gathered in Estero Community Park for the inaugural “Walk the Spectrum” event on Saturday.

Hosted by My Autism Connections Inc., the goal of the event was to raise awareness and funds for families affected by autism.

Sandra Worth, the president and founder of My Autism Connection, has a 24-year-old son with autism. As she raised him, she noticed there was a lack of community resources for him.

“We felt like we were alone. We felt like we were on an island by ourselves where no one else could possible understand what were going through,” she said, which inspired her to found the organization six years ago.

The organization teaches relational and life skills, such as cooking, gardening, financial literacy and wellness.
