FORT MYERS, Fla. A jury ruled against two former county employees on Friday that sued for back pay, damages and legal fees.

Donna Ward, former director of Lee County Domestic Animals Services, and operations manager Glenn Johnson filed a lawsuit in November 2014 claiming the county violated Florida’s Public Whistleblower Act by terminating their employment.

The suit alleged they were fired by their supervisor, Christine Brady, in retaliation for disclosing alleged illegal and unethical county management activities involving a case of animal neglect.

County officials said the pair were insubordinate and failed to follow orders.
