FORT MYERS, Fla. A student at Florida Gulf Coast University is working to unify police and the black community.

Simone Nelzi is working with the Fort Myers police to organize a walk called “Blue and Green Goes Blue and Black.”

“Basically, I noticed the distrust within our community, my community back home, after recent events like Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Sandra Bland,” she said. “We want everyone to get a feel of who they’re working with, of who we have representing us, so there’s no longer distrust.”

The walk is scheduled to take place Saturday at 10 a.m.

Participants will walk from the Fort Myers Police Department to the Lee County Black History Society building.
