CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A 17-year-old boy was arrested Friday after allegedly hitting a moped, then fleeing the scene last weekend, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Kenney Roberts was driving his moped to work on the Midpoint Bridge when the teen’s white Infiniti Q50 Sedan slammed into him from behind, he said.

The impact threw him from his moped. When Roberts looked at the car, the teen fled the scene.

However, the teen didn’t realize that Roberts’ license plate had wedged into the grille of the car after hitting Roberts’ moped.

“I’m just so grateful there was a clue that was added into the air,” Roberts said.

Authorities found the teen at a repair shop in Sarasota, where was getting the car fixed, the FHP said.

The Infiniti was impounded and the teen was transported to the Lee County Jail. He is facing third degree felony charges for leaving the scene of the crash with injury.
