NORTH NAPLES, Fla. — An 80-year-old Illinois woman was killed Wednesday night in a crash outside The Turtle Club Restaurant at The Vanderbilt Beach Resort on 9225 Gulf Shore Drive, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The wreck occurred around 7 p.m. Carol Ryan was hit while getting into a 2008 Buick.

Naples resident William Espinosa, 32, was also hit while helping Ryan into the right seat of the Buick. He was taken to NCH North Collier Hospital with serious injuries, the FHP said.

The crash happened when a 2015 BMW hit the rear of the Buick in the driveway. Ryan and Espinosa fell onto the driveway and were hit by the BMW as it pulled ahead and turned right. The BMW then crashed into a stair handrail and an electric sign, the FHP said.

The driver of the BMW, 66-year-old John Glancy of Naples, was cited for careless driving, the FHP said.
