1 dead, 1 injured in Port Charlotte crash

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — One person died and another suffered serious injuries in a crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of Veterans Boulevard East and Atwater Street, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The two-vehicle wreck happened at 12:47 a.m., according to the FHP, and neither driver was wearing a seat belt.

A 2007 Chevy HHR was traveling in the eastbound inside lane of Veterans Boulevard approaching Atwater Street while a 2011 Chevy Cruze was traveling in the inside lane of Veterans Boulevard east of Atwater Street, the FHP said. The Chevy HHR entered the path of the Cruze and and hit the Cruze’s left side.

The driver of the Chevy HHR, Kelli Lyn LaFollette, 45, of Punta Gorda, was taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Chevy Cruze was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.
