Orlando prosecutor fires 6 over drug abuse allegations

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – The recently elected state attorney in Orlando has fired six employees over allegations of drug abuse.

The Orlando Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2kcdIP0) that State Attorney Aramis Ayala made the announcement Friday at the Orange County Courthouse.

Ayala said an internal investigation determined that the employees either used or witnessed other people using cocaine and marijuana on more than one occasion. Two employees are attorneys and the other four worked as victim advocates.

Ayala says the six will not be prosecuted but that she wants to hold her office’s employees to high standards of conduct. Ayala has been in office three weeks.

Ayala defeated one-term State Attorney Jeff Ashton in the August Democratic primary. There were no Republicans in the race.
