Cape Coral home riddled with bullets in early morning gunfire

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A frenzy of bullets were fired at a home on Southwest Eighth Place Friday morning while the family was inside.

Cape Coral police believe the shots may have come from a nearby home across the canal and the shooter is an elderly person with dementia.

Nancy Fermin and her husband said they feel lucky to be alive.

“One slider over and it would’ve hit my husband or myself in bed,” she said.

Police found at least 18 bullets throughout the Fermins’ home.

Although the shooter has dementia, police are unsure what caused the person to shoot toward the Fermins’ home.

No injuries were reported.
