NAPLES, Fla. — The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from a Mobil at Whistlers Cove Boulevard and Tamiami Trail East Tuesday night. Deputies said the suspect walked into the Mobil at around midnight to try and cash a check. When the check was denied, he took a box filled with $4,000 in cash and ran. The clerk chased him on foot until the suspect ran into Treetops Drive. A helicopter and five K-9 deputies were used in the search, but no arrests were made. The clerk wasn’t injured. CCSO is referring to this incident as a larceny instead of a robbery because the suspect didn’t take the box by force nor did he use a weapon. While the cash box was eventually recovered, but the money was gone.
