WINK News Reporter John Trierweiler FORT MYERS, Fla. — Southwest Florida residents have until 6 p.m. Wednesday to donate stuffed animals to help sick children at the Holiday Bear Hug event. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport at Town Center on 9931 Interstate Commerce Drive. In addition, attendees are eligible for prizes such as Red Sox tickets, a hotel stay and a complementary dinner. 80 bears have been dropped off so far, but the hotel’s ultimate goal is to have more than 100 cuddly friends, a Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport at Town Center associate said. The Holiday Inn Airport at Town Center partners with Build-A-Bear Workshop in this endeavor, and participants are eligible for a 10 percent discount off Holiday Bear Hug creations at their Coconut Point Mall location, according to a hotel associate. Patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida will receive the donated bears following the event.
