FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man accused of hiring a hitman to kill his wife in Bonita Springs requested state money to hire a private investigator in court Thursday. Mark Sievers’ attorney said he can’t afford his legal fees and that he will appoint a lead counsel who’s death penalty qualified. Jimmy Rodgers also appeared before a judge. Lawyers for both men complained about having trouble accessing evidence stored on a hard drive. Wayne Wright, the other man charged in connection to the brutal murder, took a plea deal, which requires him to testify against Sievers and Rodgers. Sievers and Rodgers will return to court in February.
