FORT MYERS, Fla. — Tampa Buccaneers star quarterback Jameis Winston just settled a federal lawsuit filed by a woman accusing him of sexual assault, a case that’s followed him since his college career at Florida State University.

The accuser’s attorney confirmed the lawsuit was settled, but the details as to how it was resolved remains unclear. Winston also dropped his countersuit against the woman.

Winston was being sued based on accusations of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress stemming from an interaction with him in 2012.

The lawsuit was scheduled to go to trial in April.

FSU agreed to pay the accuser $950,000 in January to settle a lawsuit she filed against the university for its handling of her Title IX complaint.

Winston was never charged as the state attorney’s office declined to pursue a criminal case against him.
