Suspect arrested for attempted murder, robbery of Fort Myers taxi driver

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man was arrested in connection with an attempted murder and robbery made early Monday morning near the intersection of Carrell Road and Broadway Avenue, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

A taxi driver heard gunshots and left the area, according to the release, and went to a parking lot on 3650 Fowler St.

Victor Dongrell Wilson, 27, of Fort Myers, approached a parked taxi driver and requested a ride to Maravilla Lane, police said. When the driver refused, he pulled out a gun and demanded money, according to authorities.

The driver sped away and the alleged gunman opened fire, according to the release. The driver avoided injury.

Police found Wilson at 2151 Maravilla Lane and the driver identified him as the gunman.

The description of the firearm used in the incident matched Wilson’s weapon, according to the release.

Wilson faces charges of attempted murder, robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the press release.
