GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. — A son who said he was a suspect in the 2011 double homicide of his mother and her boyfriend revealed new clues about the cold case.

While Courtney Woode admitted to fighting with his mother, he insisted he didn’t kill them.

Carmen Perez and her boyfriend, Ludwig Volksheimer, were found tied to their bed and shot to death in their home. Woode was the one who discovered them.

Woode said he was questioned numerous times and took a lie detector test in January, adding that he spoke to his mother over the phone the day of the murder.

“When I called her that morning, I think they were still in the home, them being more than one,” he said. “They were still in the home because she said to me — I couldn’t talk right now — last thing I heard her say was, ‘I’m free.'”

Woode believes his mother untied herself and tried to escape before she was killed. He also said the couple had many renters over the years and several were evicted.

The case remains unsolved.
