Residents upset with Cape Coral tree dumping site

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The city is using a lot on Southwest 41st Street as a dump site for tree limbs and trash, and residents who live nearby are fed up.

Cape Coral hired ETI Tree Removal to uproot exotic trees that have been placed onto the land near Beach Parkway West since September. Garbage is also present on the site.

Homeowners like Carol Anger aren’t pleased with the mess.

“Who wants to live across the street from a dump?” she said. “The branches and the trees and the limbs they’re bring in now, they’re not getting rid of them. They just let them build up.”

ETI, which has only a temporary contract to use the city-owned land, has been removing the limbs and trash little by little, city officials said.

Anger said she is concerned about the risk of fire, though city officials said the tree lot is not any more dangerous than regular trees.

The lot should be cleared by the end of the year, city officials said.
