PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — A Tuesday morning gas leak at the Charlotte County Jail has been controlled, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

The leak occurred in the administrative office section of the jail, and those in that section were evacuated. They were able to re-enter, and no injuries were reported, the sheriff’s office said.

The TECO Gas Company shut off the gas line, but officials surveyed the air quality of the facility and determined it was safe, according to the sheriff’s office.

It is unclear how the gas leak started, and deputies are investigating.

No further information was immediately available.
