Construction for nursing home near Lakes Regional Park underway

FORT MYERS, Fla. –Construction for a new senior living center near Lakes Regional Park has officially begun.

Rick Musto, who visits the park often, is excited about having the center nearby.

“I’m all for assisted living,” he said. “I buried both of my parents, but that’s what we went through with my uncle and it was a great thing.”

While some people believe that having a senior center close to a park would be beneficial to its residents, many others are concerned about the center’s environmental impact.

“Initially, looking at it right now, it’s sad because of all the trees that are gone,” said parkgoer Monica Moore. “We will certainly miss that, but it will grow back.”

Deangelis Diamond Construction cleared 36 acres of land for a facility consisting of 460 units and 28 cottages.

The center will also provide memory care, assisted living and independent living.

No completion date has been set for the project.
