Collier County law enforcement agencies host ‘All Lives Matter’ meeting

Naples, Fla. — The Naples National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Naples Police and a defense lawyer spoke to the community Wednesday at the River Park Community Center.

Authorities informed community members of their rights and what to say if pulled over or questioned by police. They also showed a 10-minute video that left a lasting impression on the audience, with many people like Antonio Dumornay asking how to get the information to young people.

“If we got that information out to them [young people], when they approach officers, I think it would be better for the officers and them as well because they know their rights and the officer knows their rights, so it’s a mutual understanding,” Dumornay said.

The video featured a judge who was also a prosecutor and went over several tips of what to do during a police encounter, including knowing one’s rights and how to address an officer.

The community has held several events with law enforcement and plan to continue hosting these events.
