1 dead, 1 in critical condition following Sunday Port Charlotte crash

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A Sunday evening crash Sunday evening left one dead and another in critical condition, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. Route 41 and Toledo Blade Boulevard.

A 2005 Mercury Mariner was driving northbound from Toledo Bay Boulevard, and turning left onto U.S. Route 41. A 2014 Honda CRV was traveling southbound from Toledo Bay Boulevard in the left lane crossing over U.S. Route 41, according to the FHP release. The Mercury Mariner turned left and collided with the Honda CRV.

The passenger of the 2014 Honda CRV, Vicki Phillips, 71, of Port Charlotte, was killed, according to FHP. The driver, Henry Newton Phillips, 73, of Port Charlotte sustained minor injuries.

The passenger of the 2005 Mercury Mariner, Lilly Sorrentino, 9, of North Port, is in critical condition. The driver, Marry Sorrentino, 51, of North Port, suffered minor injuries, according to FHP.

All were transferred to hospitals, and charges are pending from this crash, according to FHP.

No further information was immediately available.
