LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — A crash killed at least one person and shut Lee Boulevard for hours Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The wreck took place at about 3:45 p.m., closing off Lee in both directions between Leonard Boulevard and Westwing Lane, according to FHP. Eastbound lanes opened before 10 p.m. and westbound lanes cleared before midnight.

The collision happened when a red car sped down Lee, dodged another car, lost control and crossed the median, striking a white truck, a witness said. The red car flipped several times but its driver survived while the driver of the white truck was killed, according to the witness.

A photo from the scene showed at least one vehicle sustained severe front-end damage.

A woman riding in the truck was taken to a hospital, witnesses said.

No further information is immediately available.
