Deputies look into North Fort Myers death

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. – A death is under investigation in the Jones Mobile Home Park, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Nearby residents said someone was shot early Friday morning inside a rental trailer at 1895 N. Tamiami Trail and that the assailant has been arrested. The sheriff’s office would not confirm that and said no danger to the community exists.

The odor of marijuana could be detected near the scene, and neighbors said gunfire and drug activity are frequent in the area. But they hadn’t seen anything quite like this.

Neighbor Kenneth Clark said the shooter was Hispanic, in his mid-30s, about 6 feet tall and overweight. Clark said he heard about three gunshots between 1 and 1:30 a.m., then saw a man come out of the trailer between 9 and 9:30 a.m., load clothing into a green Mini Cooper, and drive off.

“He came back in a black truck with black tinted-out windows in the passenger side, and I was like there the guy is, and the cops got him before he even got out of the subdivision,” Clark said.

No further information was immediately available.
