LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – The death that sparked an investigation Wednesday at the 3900 block of Fourth Street Southwest was considered a homicide, a Lee County Sheriff’s official said.

24-year-old Michael Williams was found in a vacant lot at about 8 a.m. Wednesday on the 3900 block of Fourth Street Southwest, and had five bullet holes in his back, a woman who found the body said.

Five or six gunshots rang out at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, one nearby resident told deputies. Investigators did not immediately say how the person died, but major crimes detectives have been assigned to the case, according to the department. No threat to the community exists, the department said.

Fourth Street Southwest was blocked off from Brian Avenue eastward to a dead end.

Other residents expressed shock, saying the neighborhood is usually quiet, though one said she often sees cars speeding by.

Anyone with information with knowledge of the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477) and may receive a reward based on their information.

No further information was immediately available.
