Lehigh Senior High School set to honor late basketball star

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — Lehigh Senior High School is planning to honor the memory of a basketball star who was killed in the Club Blu shooting.

Stef’an Strawder was one of two people who was shot and killed nearly four months ago when an unknown suspect opened fire on 18 people outside of the teen club.

Strawder’s high school is now dedicating a pep rally and the first basketball game of the season on Monday to him.

Although she didn’t know Strawder personally, Raleisha Martinez said she is honored to be part of Monday’s celebration as a cheerleader.

“I think that it’s really good that they did that and I feel really proud that we’re doing something like this,” Martinez said.

The school plans to turn the stands gold and the team will be wearing gold jerseys decorated with an emblem to remember their teammate. The first 500 students who enter with a purchased ticket will receive a special T-shirt with Strawder’s picture on the front and “Your Legacy Lives On” written on the back.

Keith White, Strawder’s uncle, is impressed with what the school is doing for his late nephew and touched that he will be remembered for the impact he had on those around him.

“His legacy is a kid that was raised correctly and had a dream and he chased it every day,” White said, adding that he hopes students wearing the T-shirts outside of school will inspire the shooter to come forward.
