FORT MYERS, Fla. — After months of waiting, the Jefferson Park neighborhood unveiled their new playground Saturday afternoon. Jen Robinson, the playground organizer, has been working with the Jefferson Park neighborhood for seven months to build this playground and said the feeling was surreal. “When the truck pulled in on Thursday and they opened up the back gates and I saw the equipment,” Robinson said. “That’s when I knew it was real.” The neighborhood won a nationwide competition hosted by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group with a video demonstrating why playing is important for children. The group received a $20,000 grant and raised another $10,000. “The saying is that it takes a village to raise a family,” Robinson said. “It takes a village to resurrect a park and we were determined we were gonna make it happen. I couldn’t be prouder of my neighborhood and the people that came together to make this happen.”
