Lee County Sheriff’s Office mum about missing 9-year-old

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office refused to provide a fuller narrative Thursday about the action they took at the beginning of their search for missing San Carlos Park 9-year-old Diana Alvarez.
Details about the investigation into the girl’s disappearance emerged from emails WINK News obtained Wednesday through a Freedom of Information Act request, but the sheriff’s office wouldn’t comment further. The emails showed the sheriff’s office had identified 28-year-old Jorge Guerrero as a possible suspect hours after Alvarez vanished on May 29.
Questions remain about why four days passed before the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an AMBER Alert.
The girl’s stepfather, Uribe Jimenez, expressed frustration with the level of communication he’s received from the sheriff’s office, which cites the open and active investigation into the case for its silence.
