Charlotte commissioners to discuss Punta Gorda gun range lawsuit

Published: Updated:

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Charlotte County commissioners are preparing to discuss on Tuesday a lawsuit filed against the county over the sheriff’s office’s use of a gun range.

Maxcy Development Group Holdings, the developers of the Waterford Estates, sued Charlotte County and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in August for use of a nearby gun range, which it claims causes hundreds of stray bullets to enter the its property. The nearby gun range make it too dangerous to build homes on the lot, Maxcy Development contends.

The lawsuit is listed on the county website as an agenda item. Commissioners will talk over a possible settlement and legal strategies.
