6,000 gallons of sewage spills near Naples shopping plaza

NAPLES, Fla. – Six thousand gallons of sewage was spilled on Wednesday near a shopping plaza on Davis Boulevard, the Collier County government said.

The spill happened next to a wall separating a shopping plaza and the Saddlebrook Apartments, officials said. It was caused when a contractor punctured the main sewage line, authorities said.

Collier County spokesperson Kate Albers said Friday that sewage was removed and the area was disinfected with lime.

Test results have not been completed, but authorities said the spill presents a low health risk. The county is required by law to report pollution incidents that could pose a risk to public health and safety. Albers said there is no threat to residents’ health or safety.
