Lee County’s support of FWC buffer zones in question

Published: Updated:

ESTERO, Fla. – The Lee County Board of Commissioners has drafted a letter asking the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission for more data about six proposed buffer zones intended to protect native birds. The zones would require boaters to stay as many as 150 feet away from the areas in Pine Island Sound and Estero Bay.

The designated spots include: Coconut Point, Carlos Pass and Mantanzas Pass in Estero Bay and Useppa, Broken and Hemp islands in Pine Island Sound.
