Hendry County AD to probe response to player’s injury

CLEWISTON, Fla. — Hendry County athletics director Robert Egley says he will investigate to find out if Clewiston High School football coaches followed protocol with a player who suffered a traumatic brain hemorrhage.

Senior wide receiver/defensive back Devon Jackson said he told a coach right after a Sept. 9 road game that his head hurt. He passed out on the team bus back to Clewiston and wound up at a hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery. He was placed in a medically induced coma at one point.

Jackson said he remembers the hit he took that he believes was at the root of the injury.
