Cape Coral hit-and-run driver sentenced to 10 years in prison

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The driver in a fatal hit-and-run has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, the police department announced Friday.

Timothy Wayne Turner, 49, had been drinking before he struck a bicyclist with his truck on the shoulder of NE Pine Island Road.

The impact knocked the bicyclist into a ditch and Turner fled the scene.

A Major Crash investigation eventually led to Turner being a suspect. Investigators found Turner at his home with his truck parked on the side.┬áThe rear “capper” had been┬áremoved and was hidden in his backyard.

Turner confessed to the crime after investigators matched the damage profiles.
