PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Several small businesses have shut down as a result of the three gas leaks that occurred this week. Peter’s Restaurant manager complained that she’s had to close her restaurant multiple times and is blaming the city. The future owner said the gas leaks are costing the restaurant money. Other residents said they’re irritated by the constant disruption. The first leak happened on Oct. 14 at US 41 and Port Charlotte Boulevard. The second and third have been on Kings Highway and Midway Boulevard. Construction workers damaged a gas line on Wednesday and the repairs didn’t hold up, causing it to leak again on Thursday. TECO People Gas has issued a written statement saying when planning a project that requires digging – big or small – call 811 three days before starting the project and they will mark their gas lines for free.
