NAPLES, Fla. — An 11-year-old student was arrested Tuesday at Pine Ridge Middle School for misusing 911, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Police reports show the boy called the police on Sept. 23 claiming there was an active shooter at Pine Ridge Middle School and that he heard shots fired.

The school initiated a “code red” and the school was placed under lockdown for nearly two hours while CCSO searched the school.

Deputies also called in a helicopter to aid in the search but found no shooter.

CCSO then interviewed students and school administrators who confirmed that the boy was the one who called 911 after they replayed the 911 recordings, according to police reports.

The boy is now facing a felony charge and cost the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, fire and EMS more than $2,400.
