CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A mother rushing to get her four children to school and daycare backed into her 17-month-old daughter, Cape Coral Police said.

Courtney Elizabeth Acevedo, 31, told police she thought she’d buckled the girl into her carseat, but her daughter was instead behind her van as she exited the garage at their home on 4109 Northeast 15th Place.

The girl was taken from the scene to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. A neighbor tells WINK News she has since been transferred to Tampa General Hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

The neighbor also said Acevedo won’t face charges and that the incident was accidental. The family has created a meme titled “Pray for Zoe” in the girl’s honor.

Her grandfather, Jorge Acevedo, said in a Facebook message Wednesday that she is getting better “but still has a way to go.” The girl has brain injuries that are serious but not life threatening and a fractured orbital bone, the grandfather said.
