Charlotte County leaders propose $2M fence for inmates

Published: Updated:

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Charlotte County commissioners are proposing a $2 million fence with specialized mesh after two Charlotte County Jail inmates jumped to their deaths from the second-tier rail in the last three years.

Some residents support the proposal, while others think the fence is too pricey. Many agreed that inmate safety is a legitimate concern.

Commissioners will vote on whether taxpayers should fund the fence on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
