Suncoast Community Center offers GED classes

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Suncoast Community Center is now offering classes to help people get their General Education Development certificates, or GEDs.

Located at 2241 Case Lane in North Fort Myers, the classes are free and available for people of all ages. However, students do have to buy a $20 textbook and the GED tests cost $128.

The goal of this new program is to help people get better jobs since GEDs are known by employers as the equivalent of a high school diploma. Even people in their 60s are taking classes two mornings a week to get ready for the GED test.

Lillie Hernandez, 64, is proof that you’re never too old to go back to school.

“I want my kids to be proud of me, that I graduated just like them,” Hernandez said.
