GOLDEN GATE, Fla. — Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies are conducting an investigation following the discovery of a dead body in a canal around 3 p.m. Monday at Collier Boulevard and 39th Street Southwest. A passer-by discovered the body of Golden Gate resident Carlos Rojas, 22, and alerted authorities, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives used fingerprints to identify Rojas, who lived at 5570 16th Place S.W. It’s not entirely clear how Rojas died, but his death does not appear suspicious, according to the sheriff’s office. Rojas’ girlfriend told the sheriff’s office that he left their home at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday for a haircut and never returned.
