NAPLES, Fla. – Deputies from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a large search for a missing 27-year-old man.

Jamie Curtis was last seen Friday night near Immokalee and Jones Mining roads, which is where authorities were searching on Saturday.

Curtis, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, jumped from his mother’s car and ran into the heavily wooded area Friday night after she pulled over, the department said. Authorities searched until 1 a.m. Saturday, then returned seven hours later.

“(The) subject was under stress and ran into the woodline,” Lt. J.J. Carroll with the sheriff’s office said. “Our deputies were on scene pretty quickly within five minutes and actually deployed into the area which is a swampy area about four to five feet deep. It’s a very dense, thick area. It’s swampy, some up six, seven feet deep in other areas probably two to three feet deep. It’s pretty much flooded.”

Family members said Curtis believes someone is after him and that deputies will not be nice to him, Carroll said.

Curtis was last seen wearing black sweatpants, a blue shirt, grey shoes and carrying a camouflage backpack.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (239) 252-9300.
