CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Police officers say the worst thing a person can do when faced with the danger of an active shooter is nothing. That, paired with the strong demand, is why the Cape Coral Police Department offered a free active shooter course Wednesday night. “It makes me sad that we have to put on this course but I am glad there is this many people willing to take their own safety and be responsible for it,” said CCPD Sgt. Brian Kearney. The course follows the acronym “ALICE,” which stands for Alert Lockdown Inform Counter and Evacuate. Cape Coral police day the response to the course has been so overwhelming that they are planning to offer more free classes on the subject.
